Goals:
- Get my Bachelor's Degree.
- Get a Master's Degree. Both of my parents have Bachelor's and I would like to at least get a Master's degree, although I'm not sure what in yet...
- Spend at least six months in another country, I'd like to travel to Ecuador, England, Greece, Germany, or Israel.
- Get married and start a family:)
- Become proficient in Guitar, Cajone (already working on these instruments), and at least one more instrument (Piano, Ukulele, or Violin).
- Find a Vocation. A vocation is more than just a job, it is a place where you feel best fits your abilities, skills, and passions. I hope in the next ten years I not only find a place to work and earn a living, but also a job I can work at the next fifty-ish years and feel satisfied in my work.
- Pay off college debt.
- Go on several backpacking trips:)
- Improve my Fly Casting.
- Learn how to manage Finances.
- Read my Bible all the way through several more times, whether it be in Greek, English, Hebrew, or Aramaic.
- Become a better writer.
- Make a few life-long friendships in College.
- Learn how to Dance.
- Spend more time praying.
- Read more Fiction.
- Get my Black Belt in Karate:)
- Learn a new Martial Art. (Judo, Tae Kwon Do, or Jujitsu sound interesting)
Language Goals:
-Become fluent (defined as being able to read without constant dictionary use in the Dead Languages and Conversant and Reading in the Living Languages) in (some or all, as time allows)-
- Koine Greek - Primarily to read the New Testament, LXX, and Church Fathers in their original writings
- Biblical Hebrew - Primarily to read the Old Testament in Hebrew
- Aramaic - Primarily to read the portions of the OT in Aramaic (Ezra and Daniel) and also to study inter-testamental Jewish writings (the Targums for example).
- German - As a Christian who values the Theologians of the Reformation, being able to read Luther and the German Lutherans is important, as there is much material that isn't available in English:( Also, German is a required Modern language to do graduate work in Classics, Early Christian Studies, Archaeology, and Near Eastern Studies, which are possible Master's degree areas for me. Germany is also on my countries to visit in my twenties list...
- Spanish - I would like to someday take up the study of Spanish again, as two years of Rosetta Stone was barely enough to have a conversation with a fellow believer when I was in Ecuador*... But I have to put this one on hold for the next four to six years, as I have to learn two or three other languages depending on what I want to do after my bachelor's.
*Funny story - I told a pastor at a church in Quito that I was 50** years old...
** I was fifteen at the time.
And most importantly, to do all these things to the Glory of God,
Soli Deo Gloria,
- Jonah
