1. Anselm of Canterbury, The Major Works. (Oxford World Classics Edition). - The Scholastics of the Middle Ages are a fascinating bunch. Currently I'm chewing through his treatise on Free Will. Great stuff that makes you think, although Scholasticism must be read with an understanding of their method! (Scripture+Greek Philosophy) It's useful for one trying to work out how my Biblical Languages major and Philosophy minor relate to each other!
2. Descartes, Rene. Meditations on First Philosophy. - The Ontological Argument, Dualism (Mind/Body), Epistemology... A read recommended from one of my philosophy classes.
3. Kahneman, Daniel. Thinking, Fast and Slow. - A book by a psychologist on how we think and common errors we make. Recommended by a few college and education bloggers I follow.
4. Kant, Immanuel. Fundamental Principles of the Metaphysics of Morals. - Big title. Basically... How do we ground morality in the abstract. I realized that Kant is very important to understand if I am to be a philosopher. Interesting read, although it does take a while to chew through!
5. Lewis, C.S.. The Four Loves. - Lewis. Awesomeness. But seriously, I really am enjoying this book, although I do feel as if Being Dad and all the Rosenbladt lectures I've heard has given me a good elementary grasp of the topics in the book, none the less, an interesting read!
6. Plato's Republic. I found it in a used bookstore. We read portions of it for my Introduction to Philosophy class at Concordia, and I enjoyed Plato. This one will take quite a while as the book as quite dense.
7. Steinbeck, John. East of Eden. The Virtue in the Wasteland hosts, Drs. van Voorhis and Mallinson highly recommended this one. I am about 3/5 done and am not disappointed. Excellent read, I will probably make a blog post on the book at some point.
8. Tolkien, J.R.R.. Tree and Leaf. On Fairy-Stories. I've wanted to read this one for quite some time, and despite owning a copy, never got around to it. Hopefully I'll finish it this summer!
9. My Greek New Testament.
10. Mounce, Bill. A Graded Reader of Biblical Greek.
Both 9&10 are to keep my Greek up!
Hopefully I will finish most of these before I leave to Cambridge! As you can see, I have quite a bit of variety. Philosophy, Philology, Psychology, Theology, and Literature are all represented here. I purposely included Steinbeck and Tolkien to get some fiction in; I dearly love fiction but do not have much time for it during school.
Grace and Peace Brothers and Sisters!
